December 7, 1942
letter of December 7, 1942 from Wendling Anglin (1534) in Montreal, to his oldest sister, Mamie (1531)
Dec 7/42Dear Mamie:-
It was sweet of you to send Bill a package. I am sure he will appreciate it. Don't know whether Doug told you but he has been in two accidents, but as far as we know he is still safe. His pilot crashed in a duck pond, presume Bill meant English Channel, and wireless air gunner was killed. Then some WAAC stalled an auto on their runway one dark night, became panicky and beat it, leaving the truck in center of bomber's runway - which resulted in a smash up for the truck, bomber only scratched. So you see we are anxious about him all time. Hear you are staying at Evas, hope you get a rest - Alberta is not coming up for Christmas, she, Donnie and Bina (???) have all had serious form of flu, so Alberta is sure having her troubles. Wish you could come down here for holidays - If you wish you could divide your stay with Doug and yours truly - If not convenient at Doug's we have lots of room and you could stay with us. It would be nice for family get together for holiday season. Jack and Margery can look after apartment while you are away. If you want a rest you could take it easy and do as you please. Think we will have Ethel with us, but one can never tell. Already she has asked Jo what are our plans for Christmas.
Sorry to hear about Mrs. Stanley. Please tell her I was enquiring about her when you see her. Too bad her daughter could not nurse her. Did you see Paul (????)'s picture in Star attending a wedding of a brother officer?
Market has been better, and business picking up somewhat. This I am thankful for as it was an awfull let down coming back after Victory Loan. Worked hard on loan and (????) 1/4 million from my dozen companies, but as I was loaned to the govt by our firm just received my salary as usual. Suppose Doug tells you all the news, so nothing much new to tell you. Drop us a line soon and hope you can arrange to come down for a week. Tom brought a young (????) in from C.I.L. for over week end, so it was nice to have some young people around. Cheers. With love,
Wendling
